Tea with Father Christmas, Lake District

If there’s anything better than a tea party, it’s one where Santa Claus is invited too! This year, the festive folks at The World of Beatrix Potter are swapping out their famous Peter Rabbit Tea Parties for a Father Christmas Tea Party! With a Christmassy showing of The Tailor of Gloucester, a delicious lunch, presents - and even the chance to meet Father Christmas himself - it’s a truly magical afternoon. Better yet, tickets also include entry to The World of Beatrix Potter attraction!

Running from the 16th to the 23rd December, the Father Christmas Tea Party takes place at 1pm every day in The Laundrama, opposite The World of Beatrix Potter. Children’s tickets are £15, with adults at £20 – book yours today to avoid disappointment!

Winter Wonderland, Wales

If you’re looking for an evening activity to keep you and the kids out of trouble, the National Botanic Garden of Wales’ Winter Wonderland is just the ticket. Little ones will be amazed by the colourful light show and watch in wonder at the stunning owl display. Mum and Dad can also enjoy free mulled wine and even a mince pie! If that wasn’t enough there will be plenty of fun, games and music - and even a festive barbecue, turkey sandwiches and sweet treats.

The Winter Wonderland takes place between the 8th and 17th of December, opening its doors between 4-7pm. With adult tickets at just £6 and children’s tickets at £3 – it’s a great family evening out. You’ll also find additional festive events taking place at the garden during December, including a Christmas food fair. Visit the garden’s website to find out more.

The Santa Train, Cornwall

If riding a magical steam train to Santa’s Grotto sounds like something your kids would enjoy, they’ll love Lappa Valley’s Santa Trains! Starting with a festive steam train ride into Lappa Valley’s leisure park, the Santa Train event includes a return train journey, a visit to Santa’s Grotto (and a present!), while mum and dad will be greeted with warm mince pies and mulled wine. As well as meeting Santa, there are plenty of other Yuletide activities taking place, including live entertainment and Christmas card colouring.

Located just outside of Newquay, Lappa Valley offers plenty to see and do, with woodland walks, a toddler’s maze, children’s play area and even a miniature railway to ride through the woods. Christmas Past, County Durham

Beamish is a magical day out at any time of the year, however, when it comes to Christmas, they pull out all the stops. Kids will love stepping back in time and exploring the sights and sounds of this open-air museum. As well as all of the museum’s regular attractions, little ones can also enjoy a visit to Santa’s Grotto where they’ll get to meet Santa, receive a gift, feed his reindeer and enjoy a hot chocolate while trying out some arts and crafts. If that wasn’t enough excitement, a spin around the ice rink is sure to get them feeling festive. Don’t forget to stop off at the Beamish Bazaar to pick up some last minute gifts.

Open from 10am-4pm from the 18th November through to the 24th December, Beamish is home to a whole host of activities. General admission gives you access to the whole museum, with more to see and do than you’ll ever be able to squeeze into one day, while tickets to Santa’s Grotto are just £5. Explore the festive events on offer and book your tickets via the Beamish website.

Scottish Santa, Pitlochry

For a taste of tradition with a Scottish twist, a visit to Blair Castle is a must. Situated on the edge of Cairngorms National Park, this majestic white castle has stood for over 700 years. It’s also a great chance for your kids to bring history lessons to life, with the castle having hosted some of Britain’s most famous figures, including Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Victoria. On selected Sundays in December, the castle will host a bagpipe playing Santa where little ones can tell Santa what’s on their wish list and receive an early gift. As well as Santa’s Grotto, the castle will also be open for a Christmas themed Sunday lunch in their beautifully decorated ballroom. With a delicious festive menu, including a special kid’s menu, it’s the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.

While the castle is closed to the public during the winter, it reopens its doors on the 10th and 17th of December for Christmas lunch and Santa’s Grotto – making for an extra special visit. Tickets to Santa’s Grotto are £10, while Christmas lunch is £12.50 for children and £27 for adults. Visit Blair Castle’s website to find out more and book your space.
