Britain is home to some of the best zoos and wildlife parks in the world. These attractions offer an amazing opportunity to hang out with hundreds of animals, including rare and exotic species.

A perfect day out for families with children, there’s lots to see on a visit to one of Britain’s amazing wildlife attractions. Exciting talks with zoo keepers and animal encounters mean you can get even closer to some of your favourite animals, whilst creating some amazing holiday memories.

Today, we’ve unearthed some of our favourite wildlife attractions in Britain for you to discover on your next holiday with Parkdean Resorts.

Chester Zoo, Cheshire  

Only 45 minutes from Ty Mawr Holiday Park, there’s so much to see on a visit to Chester Zoo, you’ll want to come back over and over again. Set in 125 acres of gardens with over 15,000 animals to see, Chester Zoo is a great day out.

From monkeys and apes to exotic amphibians and reptiles, there are so many animals to discover. Don’t miss the elephants, lions, tigers, jaguars, giraffes, meerkats and bears. Also, make sure you visit Penguin Island where you can see these fascinating creatures both above and below the water. There are over 100 different species of fish to discover and thousands of fascinating invertebrates to see, including spiders, exotic insects, jellyfish and the amazing selection of colourful butterflies in Butterfly Journey.

Not just a fun day out, Chester Zoo is also a wildlife charity. You can learn more about wildlife conservation, as well as learning all about how they look after some of the world’s most endangered animals.

Set off on your own wildlife expedition and explore the tropical islands of Panay, Papu and Sumba, where you’ll see lots of exotic plants and animals. Find out the secrets of the zoo with daily talks, where you can learn all about your favourite animals.

Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Devon

Nestled in over 28 acres of sub-tropical gardens, and only 30 minutes from Ruda Holiday Park, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park has lots to offer. Not only can you get close to some of your favourite animals, but you can travel back in time and see some of the prehistoric creatures that once roamed the earth.

From African lions to exotic birds, there are lots of animals to see on a visit. Say hello to playful baboons and other primates, including squirrel monkeys, lemurs, gibbons and macaques. There are also wolves, penguins, wallabies and meerkats to see as well as exotic reptiles and much more.

You can get even closer to the action with special animal experiences too. Whether you want to swim with sea lions, shadow a zoo keeper or feed the lions, there’s something for everyone. There are free daily shows and talks too, where you can discover more about the natural world and how these animals are cared for at the zoo.

It’s not just animals you’ll see on a visit. Lurking amongst the tropical trees and plants you’ll come face-to-face with some of the giant dinosaurs that once walked the earth. These fascinating animatronic dinosaurs are the closest you can get to the real thing and make an unforgettable experience. Look out for the fearsome T-Rex, the family of Triceratops and the huge Brachiosaurus. You can find out more about these prehistoric creatures with a visit to the Dinosaur Museum, where you can watch regular dinosaur shows.

Afterwards, head into the world of Ancient Egypt and explore the amazing Tomb of the Pharaohs, a recreation of one of Egypt’s magnificent tombs, complete with hieroglyphics, paintings and its very own ‘Mummy’.

Colchester Zoo, Essex

Take a trip to distant lands with a visit to Colchester Zoo and discover different habitats from all over the world. Only 20 minutes from Coopers Beach Holiday Park, there’s so much to see on a trip to one of the UK’s most-loved zoos.

Visit the animals and see a whole variety of species from across the world in spectacular enclosures. Enter the humid world of the Komodo Dragons and see these magnificent beasts up close. Head over to the Kingdom of the Wild and feel as though you’ve stepped into Africa itself, where you’ll see giraffes, zebras, kudu, white rhinos and ostriches.

See the playful penguins who live in Penguin Shores, then check out the Playa Patagonia, the largest straight underwater tunnel in Europe. Wander through the famous glass tunnel, which takes you under a giant enclosure, home to 5 Patagonian sea lions who you’ll see swimming around you. Head to the Chimpanzee Lookout, the tallest enclosure at the zoo, and see the beautiful orangutans in the Orangutan Forest.

Learn more about the amazing animals living here with daily keeper encounters, where you can watch the animals being fed and trained. Exciting activities like hand feeding giraffes and elephants mean you can get even closer to these marvellous animals, for a unique experience.

Knowsley Safari Park, Merseyside

From tigers to camels, discover over 700 animals on a visit to Knowsley Safari Park. There’s plenty of fun for the whole family, and at just over an hour from Todber Valley Holiday Park, it’s well worth a visit.

One of the highlights of the park is its amazing Safari Drive, where you can see hundreds of wild animals all from the comfort of your car. Take a drive through the lion enclosure and see these amazing animals up close. Continue in your car, or hop on the Baboon Bus, to get close to these cheeky creatures that have become the trademark of a visit to Knowsley.

There’s lots to learn on the Foot Safari too. Take a stroll through the Bat Forest, which is home to around 100 Egyptian fruit bats and see them flying around overhead. Check out the magnificent Birds of Prey Experience, including flying displays, bird handling and vulture feeding. There’s also the Giraffe Tower, where you can enjoy regular talks from the Knowsley team. Say hello to the cute family of meerkats and don’t miss the amazing sea lion show.

It’s not just exotic creatures to see on a visit, you can also see lots of British wildlife too. Look out for stoats, squirrels and weasels in the woodland and spot the various species of waterfowl nesting around Mizzy Lake. There are also lots of rides and play areas to keep the kids entertained too, providing a great day out for the entire family.
