In anticipation of the Prime Minister issuing more detail around the lockdown exit road map on 22 February, 2021, Parkdean Resorts is working with eight holiday park operators: Bridge Leisure Parks, Away Resorts, Haven, Hoburne Holiday Parks, Park Holidays, Park Leisure, Verdant Leisure, Haulfryn, and trade body UK Hospitality, to highlight the sector’s specific asks with the aim of saving the vital Easter trading period.

This group, who account for 30% of the sector, has come together to protect businesses, thousands of staff and suppliers and the economies of coastal and rural communities across the UK, which have taken a devastating hit at the hands of the pandemic. If holiday parks are not operational this Easter, the economic and social impact will be directly felt in these areas which are already under tremendous economic pressure.

Collectively, the group employs more than 27,000 people nationwide and support more than 171,000 jobs across the UK. Holiday parks generate £9.3bn visitor expenditure, equating to £5.3bn Gross Value Added to the UK economy. Considering this, the group believes that tourism will be a key driver in helping the UK’s economic recovery, providing much-needed employment, investment and opportunities as part of post-lockdown growth.

With the right conditions set by Government, the sector can enjoy a strong Easter and a brighter 2021. To enable this, the group is asking the government to support its parks through:

  • Offering a clear roadmap for reopening to give consumers confidence to book and our businesses the confidence to hire 19,000 seasonal workers
  • Maintaining VAT at 5% for 2021 to help drive demand
  • Continuing the business rates holiday to protect our cash reserves

These asks comprise the Save Easter campaign, launched on 5 February 2021. More information can be found here: https://www.ukhospitality.org.uk/page/Save-Easter
