All dog owners know that straying too far from the regular routine can turn even the best behaved dog into a barking ball of mischief. Here are our top tips for minimising the mayhem and ensuring that both you and your pet get the most out of your travels.
Make sure your accommodation is dog friendly
We provide dog friendly accommodation at 66 of our 67 holiday parks, meaning your four-legged friend can enjoy a break too! When using the search bar to book your holiday, simply select 'Yes' under the 'Bringing any Pets?' dropdown.
Remember to pack for your dog
While you’re packing, be sure to remember that there’s one member of the family who needs the most help in this regard - your trusty pooch! Take as many of their favourite things as you’re able - while making sure you leave enough space left for your own essentials!
Remember to include bedding, blankets, leads, collars, bowls, towels, toys and their favourite food - as well as treats for when they’ve been a good boy or girl.
You’ll also want to make sure their collar has your mobile number written on it too, just in case you get separated.
Avoid a soggy doggy
Whether it’s a rainy day or your dog decided to take a dip in the sea/a pond/a lake, chances are at some point you’re going to have a very wet dog, so remember to take a dedicated towel for them. Better yet, take some of your favourite fragrant tumble dryer sheets and give them a wipe down after you’ve towelled them to avoid that wet dog smell!
Plan your walks
While most of our parks sit next to long beaches and country walks, some popular beaches will have no-dog policies. To avoid disappointment you and your pup can go along on one of our recommended walks. Here are just a few walks that will give you and your pet memories to cherish.
Cornwall - Looe Bay
Head down to Looe Bay Holiday Park in Cornwall which has an on-park dog-walking zone perfect for giving your pup a spot of exercise. When you’re looking for a longer walk, seek out the coastal path starting in the Hannafore area of West Looe and head westward to Talland Bay, a gorgeous dog-friendly beach and let them off-lead.
You’ll likely find a country pub or two on your travels who’ll happily welcome you and your canine companion!
Scotland - Nairn Lochloy
Fancy taking Fido for a spot of dolphin spotting? Fortrose Beach near to Nairn Lochloy Holiday Park is a dog friendly sand and shingle beach. Enjoy the sights as you amble down to this pretty coastline and if you’re lucky you might just see a dolphin - this is one of the best places in the region to catch a glimpse of them!
The Isle of Wight – Nodes Point
You can stroll across a host of dog-friendly beaches near Nodes Point Holiday Park on the Diamond Isle - Bembridge, Seagrove, Spring Vale and Ryde are all welcoming spots for you and your pet. For something a bit more exhilarating, let your dog off the lead at St. Helens beach and watch some watersports - with jet-skis, surfing and sailing on offer.
