Visit Amble

Wildlife lovers, this one’s for you. The characterful working harbour town of Amble sits just a mile away from Coquet Island, a haven for tens of thousands of seabirds, including oh-so-adorable puffins and rare roseate terns.

Sail out from Amble for a closer look at this remote natural haven, and spot seabirds circling the lighthouse and seals swimming by. Or, for the full panorama, visit beautiful Warkworth Beach.

Tucked up against sand dunes, this powdery beach is huge and utterly unspoilt. It’s the place to enjoy long inspiring walks, sandcastles and a paddle. You can even learn to surf and paddleboard here!

For history, Warkworth Castle and Hermitage is a must. This gigantic fortress was once home to Harry Hotspur and features striking towers, a magnificent cross-shaped keep and fat, well-preserved walls.
