Couple walking along a British Beach

From the stunning cliffs of Dorset to the Isle of Wight’s beautiful beaches, you don’t have to take to the skies for an unforgettable couple’s holiday. Whether you enjoy countryside strolls, thrilling watersports or historic attractions, Britain has so much to offer.

As part of our Best of Britain campaign, we’ve teamed up with three of the UK’s best-known travel bloggers, Wanderlust Chloe, Vicky Flip Flop Travels and xameliax, to unearth some of the greatest experiences for couples in the UK. Here are some of the amazing places they explored!

Dorset

Home to famous cliffs, natural landmarks and a rugged historic coastline, Dorset is one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations. If you’re a fan of a crime drama, then the county’s West Bay may seem very familiar. With its towering 140ft cliffs and picturesque views, this dramatic part of the coastline provided the backdrop for popular ITV series Broadchurch.

Two other iconic coastal landmarks in Dorset are Durdle Door, an impressive natural limestone archway in the sea that has eroded over time, and Lulworth Cove, a unique cove formed by forces of the sea and melting ice at the end of the last Ice Age. These natural formations create a seriously picturesque and romantic setting – perfect for a couple’s selfie!

Dorset is also home to an array of vineyards, one of them being Langham Wine Estate. Take a tour through the grapevines, before sampling some of the award-winning wines.

And of course, no trip to the Jurassic Coast would be complete without spending some time in the water. Jurassic Coast Activities provide a range of watersports, such as kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding – there really is something for everyone.

Isle of Wight

Just a short ferry ride away from the mainland, the Isle of Wight is the perfect place to visit for a romantic getaway. From scenic countryside to historic attractions, there’s so much to see and do on a holiday here.

If you’re a history-loving couple, then Osborne House is a must-visit attraction. The house is known as Queen Victoria’s ‘royal palace by the sea’, as it’s where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert often holidayed. On a visit, admire the exquisite interior, before heading outside and taking a romantic stroll through the stunning gardens.

For a date-day with a difference, head to West Wight Alpacas, home to a unique herd of Suri llamas and alpacas. Take these cute animals for a stroll and learn all about their history from the local guides.

And you can’t visit the Isle of Wight without seeing the famous Needles, three stacks of chalk rising out of the sea on the west side of the island. If you’re travelling as a couple, take a romantic ride on the Needles chairlift, admiring the views along the way.

Devon

With quaint villages, picturesque beaches and an array of cafes and pubs serving incredible afternoon tea, Devon is the ideal place to go if you’re holidaying with your other half. Explore the winding country lanes and ancient landscape, before heading to the coastline for boat trips, watersports and more.

If you’re visiting North Devon and looking for an unusual date-day activity, then a visit to Quince Honey Farm is a must. Experience what it’s like to be a beekeeper, or simply take a tour of the local apiaries and learn all about the honeybees. You can even make your own candles too!

Once you’ve finished at the farm, head over to Arlington Court, a country house built in 1823. This estate has been held by the Chichester family for over 500 years, and inside, you’ll find an array of treasures. From model ships and shells, to cosy rooms and stables, unearth its fascinating history on a visit.

Did you know that Devon is also a world-class surfing destination? So, whether you’re a willing amateur or a seasoned pro, it’s one of the UK’s best places to try and catch a wave. If you’re holidaying in North Devon, then Surf South West in Croyde is a great place to start. From half day lessons to weekend courses, pop on your wetsuit and try your hand at this thrilling sport.
