Parkdean Resorts, the UK’s largest holiday park operator, has announced a new partnership with the AdventureSmart.UK safety campaign.

The campaign aims to reduce the number of avoidable incidents that the rescue and emergency services deal with each year through a comprehensive set of safety messages. Parkdean Resorts is helping to spread the message far and wide by including this messaging in its digital park welcome packs.

Encouraging holidaymakers to reduce avoidable emergency rescue callouts

AdventureSmart poses three key questions to those heading outdoors – Do I have the right gear? Do I know what the weather will be like? and Am I confident I have the knowledge and skills for the day? – designed to encourage walkers to plan ahead, take responsibility for their own safety and reduce avoidable emergency rescue callouts.

Having initially included this safety messaging in welcome packs for its four parks in the Lake District – Fallbarrow and White Cross Bay on Lake Windermere, nearby Limefitt Park, and Gatebeck near Kendal – Parkdean Resorts is now extending this initiative, and safety messaging will be included in welcome packs at each of its parks across the UK. Guests staying at parks along the coast will also be encouraged to check local tide times to ensure they stay safe when exploring local beaches.

The partnership came about through Parkdean Resorts’ existing relationship with the Lake District Search & Mountain Rescue, and the holiday park operator has donated a number of holidays to the organisation to be used as raffle prizes for its ongoing fundraising efforts, as well as to be gifted to volunteers.

In order to help further the work of AdventureSmart, Parkdean Resorts has also formed part of a steering group with other Lake District-based businesses, working together to build a toolkit to help businesses engage their customers with the AdventureSmart campaign. The toolkit has been developed by the Lake District Visitor Safety Group in collaboration with AdventureSmart and provides resources and skills to help businesses encourage visitors to take simple actions to stay safe whilst exploring.

We really care about the safety of our guests

Toby Durston, Regional Director at Parkdean Resorts, said: “We understand the importance of sharing safety messaging with our network of holiday makers, holiday homeowners, and our own people, and we really care about the safety of our guests, so we’re thrilled to partner with AdventureSmart. It’s our responsibility to ensure we look out for those who are staying with us and to make sure they’re well-equipped when they head out to explore the local area, so we’ve included the AdventureSmart safety messaging in the digital welcome packs which all guests receive via email in the run-up to their stay.

“We’ve also included the same messaging on our website on the Lake District attractions page, as we want to take every opportunity we can to remind guests about what they can do to prepare and keep themselves as safe as possible. As a business with parks in stunning locations across the UK, we champion the great outdoors and encourage our guests to step outside and enjoy the surroundings, so it’s really important we do what we can to help keep them safe.”
