About Hastings

Hastings may be famous for Normans, Saxons and eye-gouging arrows, but there’s more to this seaside town than 1066.

Its sand and shingle beach has attracted holidaymakers since Victorian times, who graced the resort with some fine attractions, including the UK’s steepest funicular railway (which still runs the original wooden carriages today) and the splendid Alexandra Park. Elsewhere, you’ll discover all the seaside classics: arcades, crazy golf and fish and chips.

Yet Hastings is evolving. An upsurge in investment has seen new sights pop up all over the town, including the contemporary Jerwood Gallery, a mammoth underground skate park and a brand-new pier. Joining them are a wave of hip new eateries, gourmet delis and boutiques.

Of course, it’s not all change. Hasting’s Old Town remains as quaint as ever, with its independent shops, eclectic cafes and bars. And no trip here would be complete without a trip to nearby Battle, to learn about, yes, 1066.
