A visit to a country show celebrates everything we love about the Great British countryside. From delicious fresh food, to unique shopping opportunities and cute, cuddly farm animals, there’s plenty for the whole family to see and do.

There’s a whole variety of country shows taking place all over the UK in July. Showcasing the best livestock, live music, food and drink and fun-filled rural activities, there’s no better way to learn about the local culture than by visiting a country show.

For those looking for a great day out this summer, here are some of our favourite country shows around our holiday parks that you don’t want to miss.  

Mid Devon Show, Devon - Saturday 22nd July, 2017

Just over 45 minutes from Torquay Holiday Park, celebrate the best of Devon’s countryside with a visit to the Mid Devon Show. A great day out for all the family, this year’s show is set to be bigger and better than ever.

From delicious food and drink, to exciting displays and exhibitions, there’s all sorts going on at the Mid Devon Show. Relax by the Main Ring and watch all kinds of animals take to the stage, including dogs, horses and sheep. This is also where the winners are presented with their prizes and where you can watch the exciting Motostunts International display. Afterwards, head over to the Music and Dance Pavilion where you can see a variety of musical performances and live shows throughout the day.

Animal lovers will enjoy spending time in the Countryside Arena. Here, you’ll be able to see all sorts of animal antics including ferret racing, the North Devon gun dogs display, falcon and owl shows and the Exmoor pony display. To keep the kids entertained, there’s also archery, bouncy castles and donkey rides to enjoy.

Some of the best local produce will be on show at the Mid Devon Show this year, so you’ll be sure to experience some delicious culinary delights. With lots of hot food outlets, a beer tent and a food hall to explore, there are plenty of tasty treats to try.

Adult tickets are £14.00 and child tickets are £4.00 if purchased in advance, or £15.00 for adults and £5.00 for children at the gate. Open 9am to 5:30pm.

Coniston Country Fair, Lake District - Sunday 23rd July, 2017

Located on the shores of Coniston Water, and only half an hour from Fallbarrow Holiday Park, there’s lots on offer at the Coniston Country Fair. Nestled in the beautiful Lake District countryside, with various stalls to browse and plenty of shows and activities to see, this traditional agricultural countryside fair makes the perfect day out for all the family.

Get close to the action and watch various countryside sports, including the traditional Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling competitions. The Fair also features a six-mile senior Fell Race, where you can cheer on the athletes as they make their way from the show field, to the top of the Old Man of Coniston and back down to the fairground.

Don’t miss the Herdwick sheep and sheepdog show, where you can see these clever animals at work. There’s also falcon displays, where you’ll see these magnificent birds of prey swooping through the air, before getting the chance to meet them during the handling sessions.  

There’s lots on offer to keep the kids entertained on a visit to Coniston Country Fair. Enter the different sports competitions, try out egg throwing and if you’ve brought your dog, take part in the Children’s Pet Show. After the fair, take a stroll along the lakeshore and paddle in the water, where there are boats to rent out too.

Adult tickets are £6.00 and under 16’s are £3.00, there is free parking available on site. The Fair starts at 11:30am.

Royal Welsh Show, Wales - Monday 24th – Friday 27th July, 2017

Set over 4 days, with an action-packed 12 hours of programming every day, there’s so much to experience on a visit to one of Britain’s largest agricultural events. Just under an hour from Brynowen Holiday Park, the Royal Welsh Show is definitely worth attending.

Alongside traditional livestock competitions, which showcase a wide variety of farmyard animals, there are plenty of activities and events taking place at the show. Marvel at the daredevil performance by the Kangaroo Kid stuntman and see the RAF HAWKS Display Team enter the arena in their fascinating parachute display.

One of the highlights of the show is the amazing Food Hall, packed full of delicious Welsh-grown produce. Sample a variety of freshly produced food and drink, and take some of your favourites home with you. From meat to cheese to ice cream, there’s lots to tuck into.

A visit to the show wouldn’t be complete without making sure you see some of the amazing animals. Don’t miss the parade of the prize winners every day, where you can see which animals came top of their class. There’s also forestry, sheep shearing, countryside craft and gardening competitions, so you’ll truly get to see the best of Wales at the show.

Adult tickets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are £24.00 if bought in advance, and £26.00 on the gate. Adult tickets for Thursday are £22.00 in advance and £24.00 on the gate. Child tickets for any day are £5.00 and children under 4 years old can enter for free.

Border Union Show, Scottish Borders Friday 28th - Saturday 29th July, 2017

Set in over 40 acres of stunning parkland and just 50 minutes from Eyemouth Holiday Park, the Border Union Show takes place in a picturesque setting on the outskirts of Kelso. Overlooked by the beautiful Kelso Abbey and surrounded by spectacular countryside, there’s plenty to enjoy on a visit.

The show includes 2 days of livestock competitions, where visitors get the chance to see horses, cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits and many more wonderful animals. Watch them parade around the ring and discover who is crowned champion of each class. Animal lovers will also love the Pony Club Team Jumping, as well as other exciting displays.

There are over 200 trade stands to browse at the show, selling all sorts of unique rural treats, such as crafts, food and drink. Foodies will love the Flavours of the Border Food Fair, where you can sample and purchase all sorts of local food and drink from across the region.

With walkabout entertainment and a variety of different performances, the show offers plenty for the family to get involved with throughout the day. For those on holiday with their pets, the Children’s Pet Show is perfect. Enter your four-legged friend and see if they can win the grand prize. There’s also a fun-fair, lurcher racing, a motorcycle display show, a pipe band and family entertainment in the Main Ring on the Saturday, so you’ll be sure to find something that the entire family will love.  

Tickets for Friday are £9.00 for adults if bought in advance and £14.00 on the gate. Adult tickets for Saturday are £14.00 in advance and £16.00 on the gate. Under 16’s can enter for free.
