First night the carbon monoxide alarm went off which was obviously a major cause of concern. Only person available was the security absolutely no maintenance staff or management. The security guy was very polite and as helpful as he possibly could be. He made a call to what I believe was the site manager and informed us that we would need to be evacuated to another caravan. We were happy to do this given the safety implications especially with 3 young children. We were moved to an absolute dog hole don’t think this caravan had been used for several years. The smell of dampness was ridiculous. The light bulbs were missing from the roof lights. The smoke alarm was lying on the kitchen worktop with no batteries. The gas was not turned on the electric fire in the living area was faulty so spent the night without heating. The roof was also leaking and this was last weekend when the rain was torrential. Next morning we went to the site office for some answers and hopefully an apology. We got neither. The manager told us they had contacted the gas maintenance company and they were on their way. When I asked about relocating to another “suitable” caravan I was told the park was full and only one available was the dog hole we were moved to the previous night. At this point the receptionist said if I moved to the stinking, mouldy unsafe caravan they would refund me the difference from the premium caravan that I booked. The answer to that question was a resounding no. The manager asked us what we planned to do that day and we explained that we planned to go visit Blackpool. She then said just go ahead and have a good time and by the time you return the gas guy should have been and sorted the issue. In my opinion she was trying to buy time. I explained how could we go off for the day and not know what we were coming back to. All of our stuff was in the caravan we were evacuated from as we only took the essentials. At this point I was getting nowhere so decided I was hanging around until the gas guy came. We then went off for some breakfast. To add still no apology from Parkdean management. We came back a few hours later to find the gas guy on site and carrying out his investigation. He reassured me he would sort the issue and we would be able to move back to the original caravan that evening. With this reassurance from the trained competent gas operative we decided to go off for the day. The receptionist then called us a couple of hours later to confirm the issue was sorted. We returned late that evening and all was well to our relief. At no point were we offered an apology or even an explanation as to what went wrong. As a tip on customer excellence I would have thought that the Parkdean management would have left a card or even a note in the caravan for us to return to saying sorry for the inconvenience but nothing not even a follow up phone call or email. So to conclude I think Parkdean may want to review the customer service skills of their Todber Valley staff. Not the security guy though he done everything he could with limited help from management.

The Caravan should not have been available to hire, various reasons, the bulbs that needed replacing could not be, as production has stopped for that type of bulb. So we only had one bulb in a three bulb fitting in Kitchen, The ceiling lights were short of three bulbs in total. The formica top of the table was torn and exposed wood underneath was constantly on show. The radiators were rusty and did not work. Aside from these points the Staff were friendly and helpful, the pub on site was clean and well staffed. The shop though small had adequate supplies if you were short of anything. The site is well placed for visiting various places of interest during the day.
