Lovely break away. We could see the sea from our caravan. The entertainment complex was good and clean. Staff were very helpful and the entertainment staff were really good, one of the best park resort teams we have seen.

This was a last minute break for us, to celebrate my daughters 18th.
First of all, we had the best experience of customer service I’ve ever had with a holiday site. Within a few days of booking, somebody rang me to ask if I had any questions. The lady I spoke to was friendly, informative about the site but also had helpful local bus information. This was followed up by an email to prepare us for some of the pitches being muddy due to recent flooding, and to bring wellies. When we arrived there was a handmade card, chocolates and wine to welcome us and again apologise about the mud. Bad weather in February is expected but Sandy Bay went out of their way to prepare and apologise for the impact of this.

The van we had was beautiful; spotless & comfortable, with decent beds and very warm quilts. All expected necessities were there and in excellent condition, plenty of storage and hangers, tv with freeview. Heating and fire worked well and were easy to use, we were toasty despite the time of year (though luckily it was unseasonably mild). There was a bin bag and a labelled bag for recycling which I thought was great, and there were recycling bins in the bays with all ordinary rubbish bins.

The site itself was clean, well laid out with decent access for my partially sited family member, easy to navigate with everything basically central and in one complex. The indoor pool was clean (though a little heavy on the chlorine) and warm. The showers seemed to have no pressure meaning we couldn’t use them - not a huge issue, but something to be aware of. The lifeguards were very good; interactive and fun with the kids, responsive and helpful with parents, they were watchful and attentive. The pool isn’t huge or particularly deep, so nothing fancy but a good all weather family pool and they have a few choices of extra activities (prebook these, water walkers were great and the 5 minutes you get IS enough time to enjoy it!) Reasonable amount of changing rooms in decent condition with plenty of lockers (take 20p to use them - it’s refundable).

Food in the restaurant was good, nothing fancy, standard pub grub, but served hot and fast and tasty enough. The killer feature in there is the staff. Friendly, helpful, they’ll answer questions, make recommendations and adjustments, are very accommodating and welcoming. Mandy particularly made an impression on my entire family, she was an absolute pleasure. Plenty of different tables, drinks reasonably priced, comfy seating and also a small area near a little soft play for younger kids (maybe 10 and under by the looks of it.) Also they do Costa, which I’m not bothered about but it seems to be popular so worth a mention!
There is a small, well stocked Nisa shop on site with good opening hours, and a chippy which sadly we never tried!

The club house is a good size with a bar large enough to accommodate the amount of people in a club that size, on the Saturday night when it was very busy we were still served within 10 minutes at most. Staff were friendly, the bar and glasses were clean, plenty of choice, reasonable prices; tables and chairs in the club seemed to be cleaned in between use and glasses collected even when it was quite busy. The toilets were clean on Saturday night and fully stocked, but by Sunday there was a really unpleasant smell. It later became obvious that a cleaner had been in again and made a real effort but it just masked the smell, so whilst they were obviously making an effort there was something amiss.
The entertainment was good. Standard caravan holiday entertainment but a lot of fun and a couple of singers that made us smile and sing/dance along. An entertainer on the Saturday night did a great mix of classics and modern music so something for everyone. Phil who is the entertainment manager was very personable, funny and charming, and sang on the Sunday. The entertainment staff were fab - friendly, fun, animated, there was a really enjoyable mix of joking with, and for the kids, with some adult humour & banter with the audience.

The sea was literally a couple of minutes walk from the complex, and the coastline is absolutely stunning. Not much of a beach immediately accessible, but lovely for a walk and I can imagine in summer it will be lovely.

When leaving, all the staff said goodbye and chatted, reception offered to call a taxi for me when I asked for a number, and they seemed genuinely interested in our experience of the weekend.

My eldest lives in the area so we went there to see her for her birthday. We will definitely go back. It’s a nice little site, accessible by public transport, lots in the area that we will explore next time, but the best thing about Sandy Bay was that every single member of staff we encountered was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. If there had been any problems I feel sure it would have been dealt with efficiently and with a smile! Well done Park Resorts, one of our favourite sites!
