Things to do this February half term
With so much to see and do across the UK this February, we couldn’t possibly list every activity on offer. To get you started with some inspiration, we’ve hand-picked some of our top suggestions below. Don’t forget to check opening times and dates before you go, many attractions are open for their local half term dates, so if you’re travelling to a different county – plan ahead to avoid disappointment.
Go on an Animal Adventure
Nothing captivates little ones like encounters with their favourite wildlife. From meeting the king of the jungle to mingling with adorable meerkats, it’s sure to put a smile on their face (and yours, too!).

If you’re holidaying at Camber Sands or Romney Sands Holiday Park this half term, you’ll love a day out at Port Lympne Reserve – just a short drive away. Offering an authentic safari experience, you’ll get to explore 600 acres of parkland, home to giraffes, black rhino, gorillas, bears and even wolves! Conservation is at the heart of everything Port Lympne do – with over 700 animals in their care.
As well as the safari adventure, you’ll also get the chance to come face to face with exotic big cats, including lions and tigers – as well as the park’s less intimidating critters, like the adorable gibbons and howler monkeys.
If the countless animal encounters on offer weren’t enough, little ones will be amazed by the Dinosaur Forest, home to life sized prehistoric creatures. And if you’re feeling brave, you can even bring them to life using the park’s virtual reality app!
Get Lost in a Giant Maze!
Nothing beats getting lost in nature, and where better to do that than a giant hedge maze! Race your family to the centre of the maze or simply enjoy some quiet time strolling the hedgerows and spectacular gardens. It’s the perfect way to get your first breath of spring.

If you're staying at St Minver Holiday Park this half term and planning a trip to the Lizard, Glendurgan Garden is well worth a stop off. This National Trust garden is set amongst three peaceful valleys in the Cornish countryside and is home to towering trees, exotic plants and palms - and, of course, the famous hedge maze.
Known as the ‘Living Puzzle’, Glendurgan’s hedge maze is made up of vibrant cherry laurel shrubs and features a thatched summerhouse at its centre – offering a welcome place to rest for those lucky enough to find their way to the middle.
Whatever time of year you visit, there’s always something new to see, with various plants and species coming to life throughout the seasons. A visit in February is the ideal first trip outdoors to help you shake off the winter blues and see the first of the new year's greenery.
Go on a Historic Steam Train Journey
Nothing shouts nostalgia like the chugging and whistles of an old fashioned steam train. From the romantic setting of the railway to the exciting sights and sounds, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. With Britain being pioneers of the railway, we’re lucky to have a number of dedicated steam train routes still operating today.

One of our favourites is the Lake District’s Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, running between stations at Haverthwaite and Lakeside, on the southern point of Lake Windermere.
With a timetable of steam trains running, it’s an ideal way to get a different perspective on Cumbria’s beautiful scenery during your half term break. Just a short drive from our holiday parks in the Lake District, it’s the perfect family holiday activity.
Hop on a steam train at Haverthwaite Station, then continue your journey on one of Windermere’s famous launch cruises across the lake to Bowness and beyond. With spectacular mountain and lakeside vistas all around, you’ll want to bring your camera.
Enjoy the Fun of the Fair
It might still be chilly out, but you can still enjoy a classic British seaside holiday – and nothing says seaside like a fun fair. With many of the UK’s coastal resorts throwing open their doors for February half term, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to seaside destinations.
