Methodology:
We identified which locations across England, Scotland, and Wales search the most for stress-related keywords. We calculated the search results per 10,000 people to find which residents are the most stressed out.
We also looked at a variety of cities and towns across the UK and near Parkdean Resorts holiday parks to locate the most relaxing locations based on several metrics. These include police force satisfaction, quality of green spaces, noise and light pollution, population density and how clean the area is.
For the best locations for a nature escape, we looked at the places with the highest quality of green spaces. We weighted the ranking to be more towards Night Sky Surface Brightness and Noise & Light Pollution to create the stargazing spots rank. We also created a rank identifying the most relaxing locations in terms of coastal areas from the overall index.
We looked at reviews of the 14 Parkdean Resorts holiday parks offering hot tub lodge accommodation and identified which were classed as the most relaxing based on various search terms within the reviews, looking at "tranquil" "soothing" "relaxing" etc. From this we could see which holiday parks with hot tubs are the most relaxing according to our customers.
Sources:
- Search volumes were found using KeywordTool.io and Google Trends Data - UK
- The UK Population statistics were taken from World Population Review, National Records of Scotland, Statistics Wales Demography, and ChatGPT if data wasn’t available in the other sources
- Data for Clean and Tidy and Quality of Green Space was taken from Numbeo, which is a value out of 100 (0 very low, 100 very high)
- For Surface Brightness of the Night Sky (mag/arsec2 is magnitudes per square arc second), data was taken from https://djlorenz.github.io/astronomy/lp2022/overlay/dark.html. This logarithmic scale measures the brightness of the night sky
- For Local Safety, we calculated an average from the two percentages of the rating of local police (police do an 'excellent' or 'good' job) and police dealing with local concerns. We used data from ONS, Scottish Government, and Police Scotland
- Some towns are very small, meaning some of the data points were unavailable, so we had to use data from the closest city with data or UK averages
