With thousands of guests visiting and enjoying our 66 holiday parks each year, we feel it’s important that they can chat to their friends and family about their caravan holiday using the fastest growing language in the world – emojis! As the UK’s largest holiday park operator, we’ve taken the initiative to begin the campaign to have an official caravan emoji created. We’re submitting an application to the Unicode Consortium and would love your help in making the #ParkdeanCaravanEmoji come to life!
The Unicode Consortium is a non-profit organisation “devoted to developing, maintaining, and promoting software internationalisation standards,” making sure that symbols work across all computers and other devices. The organisation also has control over creating emojis for smartphones, and selects new emojis based on submissions, which present the case for the inclusion of new emojis with evidence for why each one is essential.
5 billion emojis are sent on Messenger every day, with a staggering selection of 3,633 different emojis currently on offer. Having a diverse range of emojis, ranging from a hospital to a birthday cake, we thought it necessary that a caravan emoji is put on the list. Since there’s no caravan of any kind available, there’s no way for keen staycationers to share their holiday with family and friends in emoji form, which means it’s time to take action!

“It’s crazy that in 2022 there’s no emoji for a caravan. More than 3.5 million people visit our parks each year, and a huge proportion will message friends about their holiday, so it’s only right that they should have an emoji that shows their love for their staycation. 37 new emojis were introduced last year, and we believe it’s high time that caravans got the recognition they deserve as a vital part of the fabric of British holidays.”
We’ve shortlisted a range of emoji designs which will be voted on, with the final design being submitted to Unicode, along with a detailed submission stating our case for why it’s so important that a caravan emoji is introduced. Should we be successful in our campaign, we will then continue to push for even more staycation themed emojis, including a bucket, a spade, and a sandcastle.
