Pretty pastel-hued townhouses, a chic marina and a blissful riverside location - few places can rival Dartmouth for sheer charm. But the enchanting setting is just the beginning!

You’ll see from the well-fortified medieval castle that guards the estuary entrance that the town has been a focal point for Britain’s navy over the centuries. You can explore this rich history at several museums, as well as the Britannia Royal Naval College, a grand regency-style building that’s filled with maritime treasures.

Try a little sailing for yourself in the harbour, or go kayaking, canoeing or paddleboarding if that’s more your style. Afterwards, recuperate with a coffee, cream tea, fish and chips or fresh seafood at one of Dartmouth’s many eateries – the town’s famous as a foodie hub.

Dartmouth’s other star attraction is its historic steam railway, which skirts along the estuary and coastline to provide terrific views.
