Visit Inverness

The capital of the Highlands doesn’t feel like your average city. Its location is striking, with a beautiful riverside setting, its historic streets have stacks of charm, and its booming dining scene is all about fresh, seasonal and local produce. And it has its very own monster at nearby Loch Ness!

To begin your adventures, wander up to Inverness Castle. From the top of its tallest tower, you’ll enjoy panoramic views and spy some of Inverness’s most famous sights, including its russet-hued cathedral, which is worthy of an in-depth visit for its lovely stained glass alone.

Once you have your bearings, stroll through the characterful streets below and discover shops selling everything from whisky and specialist cheese to highland wear. The second-hand bookshop and sweet little Victorian Market are particular highlights.

And the museums! Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and the Highlanders’ Museum at nearby Fort George are must-sees.
